Gippslamb

The GippsLamb Project, led by the Gippsland Agricultural Group, is an innovative on-farm research initiative focused on observing the carcass traits of lambs from different Gippsland producers under consistent grazing conditions.

By placing lambs from multiple farms into the same grazing system, the project highlights how genetics, pasture management, and environmental factors influence growth, health, and market readiness. The results provide valuable insights for producers, agribusiness, and the broader agricultural community.

Key Features

  • Data-Driven – Measuring outcomes such as average daily weight gain, MSA grading indexes, and animal health indicators.
  • All lambs are rotated through the same paddocks to ensure consistent grazing conditions.
  • Seasonal Relevance – The lamb intake begins each November, aligning with spring lamb weaning and Gippsland’s seasonal growth patterns.
  • Practical Purpose – Designed to guide breeding and management decisions while delivering insights that benefit the entire supply chain.

Get Involved

  • Producers – Nominate lambs for inclusion via an Expression of Interest
  • Agribusinesses – Partner through sponsorship, data analysis, or extension support.
  • Schools & Community – Attend upcoming field days and educational sessions to see the trial in action.
