Embracing the Circular Economy – Beneficial Sulphur Reuse Trials

Amplitude Energy, in partnership with Gippsland Agricultural Group, is delivering a locally focussed circular model after signing a pilot agreement in 2025 to use the sulphur produced at the Orbost Gas Processing Plant as a sustainable fertiliser additive. The pilot follows a successful six-month trial conducted near Bairnsdale in 2024, which found the operationally produced sulphur – historically treated as a waste – was directly comparable with commercially available sulphur products and could serve as a viable agricultural soil amendment in a region that is naturally sulphur-deficient.

The initiative demonstrates how GAgG and Amplitude Energy are creating a replicable model for sustainable industry and agriculture collaboration, one that finds beneficial use for a by-product while creating sustainable farming opportunity and driving positive environmental benefits within the local East Gippsland region.
