GIPPSLAND AGRICULTURAL CENTRE

This center will be the hub of a thriving agricultural precinct. It will not only serve as a research and education facility for students, farmers, government, and industry; we foresee a multipurpose, practical, and modern space with advanced ITC and AV infrastructure and technologies suitable for a variety of community, agency, and commercial uses where research, development, extension, education, and adaption can genuinely meet.

Given the current cost of granular fertiliser costs, and a growing interest in combining the use of foliar fertilisers in the traditional granular farming system fertiliser program, the project is aiming to demonstrate to local farmers the value of using foliar fertiliser through winter to boost pasture growth in a slow growth period.

How much lime is enough when adding lime to our soils

Investigate yield impacts and affordability to improve the soil and lift the calcium levels rapidly, compared to standard practice – different lime rates (0, 0.25 prilled, crushed 2.5, 5, 7.5 t/ha) and incorporation methods (none, 10 cm and 30cm deep).

Assess farm nutrient constraints through a subtraction or omission fertiliser experiment. Each treatment area receives all key nutrient except one, to identify what is constraining productivity. Treatments include Nitrogen, Potassium, Sulphur, Phosphorous and lime.
