Central and East Gippsland

Gippsland offers a variety of natural attractions including breathtaking beaches, pristine rainforests, snowfields, hiking and riding trails, food, wine and clean, fresh air that you will not find in any other part in Victoria. Through its significant strengths in horticulture, farming and fishing, East Gippsland has established a reputation as Victoria’s veritable food bowl. Our region is well known for quality meat, dairy and wool production; seafood and horticulture, with massive growth potential in all these industries.

Central and East Gippsland regions stretch over the Red Gum plains to the coastal lake system in the south, and the Alpine Mountain ranges on the north side, which creates a tight knitted community. This region has a temperate climate with mild to warm summers. The winters can vary from milder temperatures near the coastal parts and colder winter temperatures in the inland regions. The coastal regions of Central and East Gippsland are relatively frost-free. Still, inland areas can get heavy frost and even snow, depending on the location and altitude of the specific areas. The average annual rainfall for the Central and East Gippsland regions varies between 450mm – 800mm per annum.

Agriculture in these regions include dairy, beef, wool, poultry, horticulture, fisheries and timber in numerous locations. Agriculture is predominately made up of family farming businesses and are well serviced by local service providers in the region. There is a strong focus on mixed farming, and with our mild climate and diversity in natural resources, Central and East Gippsland region is set for an exciting time in the future of food production.
