The Gippsland Agricultural Group team wish all members and friends a happy and safe New Year and look forward to seeing you soon!

Upcoming 2022 Events

The agricultural education space is always full of events and activities, so Gippsland Agricultural Group have been working with partners and friends to develop a calendar of events, with the aim of combining multiple activities on one day or if not possible, making sure two events are not held on the same day in the same location.

This month’s e-newsletter will provide a snap shot of what is currently planned, so if something takes your fancy, you can save the date in your calendar.

Closer to each event’s date, formal communications will be sent containing the finer details like times, locations etc.

The Gippsland Agricultural group is pleased to announce that ticket sales have re-commenced for the inaugural Gippsland Red Meat Conference, after two postponements, to now be held on Tuesday February 15th 2022 at the Riviera Convention Centre in Bairnsdale.
According to Victoria’s Covid Roadmap, when 90% of the eligible population over 12 years of age is fully vaccinated, which is expected to occur sometime around November 24th, “venues can operate at maximum capacity subject to vaccination requirements and COVIDSafe measures.”
Covid regulations still apply, which at this stage appear to be that double-vaccination for Covid-19 will be mandatory for attendees (except for those with medical exemptions).
Approximately half of all available tickets to the event have already been sold, and a concentrated publicity campaign will begin before Christmas, so members are advised to get in early to ensure they don’t miss out on what will be one of the biggest gatherings of agricultural business owners, operators and employees in the Gippsland area.
The Conference programme is full of uplifting and inspiring presenters and topics with a general theme of Recovery and Resilience. The complete programme is attached to this newsletter.
Here are some examples:
  • Hear how a former NSW Farmer of the Year traded his way out of 2½ years of drought
  • A family-owned sheep stud which lost its entire ewe flock in the 2015 Pinery (SA) bushfires tells how they have bounced back
  • What does it mean to be carbon-neutral, how can we achieve that, and what is in it for us?
  • Did you hear about the recent $500,000 carbon credit trade to Microsoft? We talk to one of the property managers who negotiated that deal.
  • Succession Planning: Moving the farm from one generation to the next, without tears!
  • Financial Literacy: If the CapEx fits, do you wear it? Or will you EBIT and ROAM?
  • Analysing the market forces that are shaping beef and sheep meat prices
  • We all take care of our livestock above the ground, but what about the underground livestock? How do we take care of them, and can they make us more money than the above ground livestock?
 Plus: Masterclasses in
  • Stock Trading
  • Precision Lambing
  • Crossbreeding & Heterosis
 As well as
  • Stock handling and labour-saving equipment
  • Auto-drafts and Walkover weighing
  • Compliant stockyards
  • Digital agriculture: drones, robots, remote sensing and other clever stuff
At the end of the conference there will be a gourmet paddock-to-plate dinner, to which everyone is invited, featuring, you guessed it, red meat!
The Gippsland Red Meat Conference is brought to you by the Gippsland Agricultural group, in partnership with the National Recovery & Resilience Agency, Agriculture Victoria, Meat & Livestock Australia, East Gippsland and Wellington Shires and support from major sponsors, Elders, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Maiagrazing, Ruralbank, the Herd Improvement Co-operative and National Australia Bank.
